Message From the New President
Hello, S.T.A.T. Members,

My name is Greg Castle, and I am the newly elected S.T.A.T. Ambassador President. Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.) is an outstanding organization that contributes not only to the general student population but also to the greater University of Iowa community. You should all feel very proud to be a part of such a great organization.

I'm a junior in the College of Engineering and have been involved with S.T.A.T. for the past two years.

We have a very exciting semester ahead of us with many opportunities for you to get involved. Coming up February 18, S.T.A.T. is hosting a Mocktail Party, where students will be advised in proper cocktail party etiquette, followed by a cocktail party with several distinguished alumni. Another new event this year, which we’ve planned to shed light on the growing homeless population, is the Nearly Naked Mile run. Participants will strip off excess layers of clothing before the race begins, with the donated clothes going to the Salvation Army. In early April, we have a meet and greet scheduled with UI wrestling head coach Tom Brands. The Annual Spring Wings at Buffalo Wild Wings is on April 22.

These are just a few of the events we have planned, so stay updated with the Underground, listserv e-mails, and S.T.A.T website, because we are always adding new ways to get involved. If you have any suggestions for events or other recommendations, please let us know and we’ll try to pick up on your ideas. Thanks again and get pumped for another great semester!

Greg Castle
President, S.T.A.T. Ambassadors

Hot Chocolate Giveaway
The UI Alumni Association and S.T.A.T. Ambassadors want to say thank you for your membership! Look for the white tent on the Kautz Plaza (behind the IMU Parking Ramp and adjacent to the T. Anne Cleary Walkway) on February 11, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. S.T.A.T. Ambassadors will be on duty to hand out hot chocolate to all S.T.A.T. members. We all need a little warm comfort on winter days. Be sure to wear your S.T.A.T. T-shirt or present your member card.

Mocktail+
Take advantage of a unique opportunity to get ready for life beyond college and enhance your networking and communications skills by attending the first annual S.T.A.T. Mocktail Party on February 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Levitt Center for University Advancement. Your $10 registration fee will cover an instructional hour hosted by Margie Peskin of Search Forward, a career development firm, where she will teach you proper cocktail party etiquette, including tips on eating challenging hors d’oeuvres, juggling a plate and/or a glass while mingling, and engaging in proper conversations. In the second hour you’ll be able to apply your newly learned skills in a Mocktail Party setting with alumni from fields such as engineering, law, and business. Appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Business attire is recommended.

Space is limited, so RSVP now. The deadline to RSVP is February 11, 2009.

The race begins at 3 p.m.

Running Bare Because We Care about the Homeless! S.T.A.T. Ambassadors will help lead the community and students in a mile-long walk/run called Nearly Naked Mile, in which participants will strip off excess layers of clothing prior to the start of the race. Of course, being nearly naked is optional, but you must donate at least one piece of clothing to participate in the race! If being nearly naked is not your bag, feel free to wear a costume in the spirit of our fun race. All donations will go to the Salvation Army.

If you are interested in running the Nearly Naked Mile, online registration begins February 16 at www.iowalum.com/nnm. The first 100 registrants will receive a T-shirt at the event! If you’re interested in volunteering at the race, please e-mail Leslie Jensen at leslie-jensen-1@uiowa.edu.
