Student Spotlight—Samantha Peterson

StudentChristin Meyer is a journalism and mass communications sophomore from Dubuque with dreams to live in New York City and work for the Today Show as the next Meredith Vieira. Learn more about Christin below:

What are some random facts about you? My favorite food is spaghetti with ketchup. I am a huge Justin Timberlake fan and also a member of Team Jacob! I love watching hockey, especially the Saint Louis Blues.

Any spring break plans? I will be traveling with friends to Panama City. This will only be my second time seeing the ocean—I can't wait!

How has being a part of S.T.A.T. impacted you? S.T.A.T. is an amazing organization! I've met a lot of great people and have been able to grow as a leader.

What is your favorite S.T.A.T. memory? I love volunteering at all of our events—the block party, Nearly Naked Mile, mocktail party, and the alumni reunion weekends are a few of my favorites.

What is one thing you should do while a student at the university? Attend a football game. Cheering on the Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium is awesome!

Greatest accomplishment: Participating in Dance Marathon. Dancing for 24 hours to raise money for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, listening to the families' stories, and knowing that every hour that went by was helping them was very rewarding. I didn't sit because cancer doesn't quit!

Please send us your story, including your name, by Monday, March 15, to saa@uiowa.edu. We will choose our favorite and award the winner a $25 gift card to Coral Ridge Mall. “Here is a picture of me with my grandparents, Dr. Sam and Jane Christensen, who are both alumni of Iowa and love the Hawks as much as I do. It was awesome attending the bowl with them, as well as my parents and brothers. My brother Andy is a senior in high school and will attend Iowa next year.”

Take your chance to win by submitting your lucky charm story by March 15!

The Recap

On February 24, S.T.A.T. members seized the opportunity to learn cocktail party etiquette from expert Margie Peskin of Search Forward, a career development firm. Mocktail Party

After attending her class, students practiced their newly learned skills with more than a dozen volunteer alumni at a posh cocktail party at the Levitt Center—sans alcohol. Alumni chatted about the working world and shared advice on interviewing, networking, and life beyond college. It wasn't all work and no play, though, as everyone enjoyed talking about the university and student life.

Don't miss your chance to polish your skills at a S.T.A.T. etiquette dinner in the fall.
