Let's get physical.
Working out is tough enough without having to run in time to the huffing and puffing from the next treadmill over. However one must be cautious when selecting an appropriate workout song; your playlist is a veritable minefield of exercise-killing songs designed to squash any impulse for physical exertion. Put in Barry Manilow and not even mouth-to-mouth will resuscitate your workout.
But never fear! We at S.T.A.T. Underground have heard your cries for help. We've asked three S.T.A.T. members to put together the who's who of workout songs. May they guide you in your quest for fitness.

Song:
"Invincible"
Artist: OK Go
Album: Oh No
This song by OK Go is a powerhouse of hard beats and rock. It makes
me feel like a rockstar/superhero while I'm running...even if I'm
only going 1 mph.
|
Song:
"Your Touch"
Artist: The Black Keys
Album: Magic Potion
This is raw rock, just two guys in their basement with drums and a
guitar. All you want to do when you hear this song is crank it up and
finish that last set of 5 lb. curls.
|
Song: "Seven
Nation Army"
Artist: The White Stripes
Album: Elephant
Ever since my best friend told me she was choreographing a dance
to this song, it's been included in my list of make-you-move music.
The beat really grabs hold of you and shakes.
|
Song:
"My Generation"
Artist: Chapeaumelon
Album: Eurotrip Soundtrack
Although this song is completely in a foreign language, the beat is so uplifting that it keeps you on your feet and moving.
|
Song:
"Crush"
Artist: Jimmy Eat World
Album: Clarity
Probably the most upbeat and catchy Jimmy Eat World song for your money; the guitars continuously swell to amp-shaking highs that keep you going.
|
Song:
"Posed
to Death"
Artist: The Faint
Album: Danse Macabre
This is one of those songs I only recently discovered but have
become so infatuated with I can't stop listening to it on repeat.
I challenge you not to feel motivated to finish your workout when
listening to this. I'm dancing right now just listening to the
sample. |
Song:
"Gonna Fly Now"
Artist: De Etta Little & Nelson Pigford
Album: Rocky:Original Motion Picture Score
This is the Holy Grail of all workout songs; without it, this list would have to hang its head in shame. Bonus: it's the only song on this list that inspires you to do a Sylvester Stallone impression and throw a few jabs at random passersby. |
Song: "A-OK"
Artist: Motion City Soundtrack
Album: I Am the Movie
This is my favorite MCS song for many reasons, but mostly because
it never fails to get me jacked whether it's in the car or the
weight
room. The song builds and builds until you can't help but scream out
the final chorus. |
Song:
"I'm
So Excited"
Artist: Le Tigre
Album: This Island
The only thing to be said about Le Tigre's cover of "I'm So Excited"
is it makes you so excited you just can't hide it. I could
do sit ups to this until my back gave out and still want to keep
going.
