Online D.C. Alumni Career Expo

In April 2012 some Iowa alumni and friends networked with representatives from top Washington, D.C.-area companies through an online format.

Atlanta Career Fair

The UI Alumni Association partners with MyWorkster at various cities across the country for these informative and productive career fairs.

Big Ten Networking in Chicago

This event centered around networking for the 21st Century. If "who you know" plays such a big part in attaining professional success then why is networking so difficult for most people? Big Ten alumni gathered to learn how to confidently build a network of colleagues and connections who want to help you succeed. The evening features a presentation by Northwestern grad, author and president of RockStar Consulting David J.P. Fisher who shared the tools needed to improve your networking abilities and leverage your business relationships.

Des Moines Alumni Network Series

In the spring of 2011, lunches sponsored by the alumni associations of the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa were held at Dos Rios Cantina in downtown Des Moines. Topics on financial advice, managing your health, and "green" living were presented by alumni from each university.

In the fall of 2011, the three alumni associations partnered to hosted two 'Network Until it Hurts' events at Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar & Restaurant where participants had two full hours of uninterrupted time to meet people in the Metro in a fun, no-pressure environment. Also the "Stop Trying and Start Doing" luncheon was presented at Bravo! Cucina Italiana and focused on exploring the important differences between trying and doing along with personal goal achievement.

Social Media and Your Professional Brand: How Are You Marketing Yourself?

In March 2011, Dr. David Perlmutter, director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication discussed the impact of social media on your personal and professional brand, as well as on the job search process at Django Restaurant in downtown Des Moines. Alumni and friends of the UI School of Journalism and Mass Communication were invited to a special reception prior to the social media and marketing presentation, to network, receive School of Journalism updates, and discuss ways to connect with the school.
