New York Metro IOWA Club The Bowery Gallery will hold an exhibition of paintings and drawings by local artist and Iowa alum Lynda Caspe ('64, MFA, Painting), from February 2- February 27. Opening reception for the artist is Thursday, February 4, from 5-8pm. The Bowery Gallery's regular hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Although Lynda Caspe was a founding member of the Bowery Gallery, she left the gallery shortly after it moved from the Bowery to Soho and returned after her son entered college. During the years when she was not connected with the Bowery, Caspe wrote poetry, painted and made sculpture in her loft. Although she was not connected with a commercial gallery during those years, Ms. Caspe showed her work at the Cooper Hewitt Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art, London, and at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo, Norway. She is in many private collections such as that of John Hightower, former director of the Museum of Modern Art. Her work is in the International Art Collection of the National Gallery of Australia. After 9/11, New York City artist, Lynda Caspe, bought a house in Meredith, New York from which she has done many paintings of the farmland and woods in the area. This show sets the paintings of the rural landscape of Delaware County against the cityscapes of Manhattan. These two divergent worlds make up this artist's life. Lynda Caspe is a recipient of a CAPS grant from the New York State Council of the Arts in painting. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Capital Area/DC IOWA Club Students and their families are impressed that Iowa alumni take the time to come talk to them. Other schools have to pay people to do it but Iowa alumni care enough to do it for free. The students and their families notice the difference. Volunteers answer questions about the University and Iowa City, share their experiences and insights, and provide materials to area high school students and their families. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Jerry McLaughlin at drjerry123@aol.com. The Spring 2010 college fair schedule follows (additional fairs are likely):
