Professor emeritus of the university’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Ignacio Ponseti has earned an international reputation for having developed an innovative, nonsurgical treatment for clubfoot. A medical graduate of the University of Barcelona, he treated wounded combatants during the Spanish Civil War before coming to the UI in the mid-1940s.
