Distinguished Alumni Awards

Each
year since 1963, the University of Iowa Alumni Association has presented
accomplished alumni and friends with the association's highest honor the
Distinguished Alumni Award. To best recognize individuals selected
for service or for achievement, awards are presented in six categories:
Achievement, Service, Young Alumni, Friend of the University, Hickerson
Recognition, and Faculty/Staff.
Levels of Achievement
THE
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD is granted to University
of Iowa graduates or former students for significant accomplishments
in business or professional life or for distinguished human service
to their community, state, or nation.
THE
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI SERVICE AWARD is granted to University
of Iowa graduates or former students for specific and meritorious
service to their university, community, state, or nation.
THE
DISTINGUISHED HICKERSON ALUMNI RECOGNITION AWARD is granted
to graduates or former students for outstanding contributions to
the University of Iowa Alumni Association. This award is named
in honor of Loren Hickerson, 40BA, the University of Iowa's first
full-time alumni director and an ardent champion of Iowa.
THE
DISTINGUISHED FACULTY/STAFF AWARD is granted to retired or
former UI faculty/staff in recognition of significant achievement
or specific meritorious service on behalf of the quality and advancement
of the university.
THE
DISTINGUISHED YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD is granted to University of
Iowa graduates or former students, age 40 or younger at time of nomination, for significant
accomplishments in business or professional life or for service
to the university and/or the Alumni Association.
THE
DISTINGUISHED FRIEND OF THE UNIVERSITY AWARD is granted to
individuals who are not alumni of the university in recognition
of specific and meritorious service on behalf of the quality and
advancement of the university and/or the Alumni Association.
