Purdue</strong><img style=\"width:200px;margin-top:20px; margin-left:10px;float: right;\" src=\"_common/chilibowlxiii.png\" /><p>With the extension of the Big Ten season into the Thanksgiving weekend, a difficult choice faced us as we contemplated when to schedule our traditional year-end celebration, the Chili Bowl.</p><p>In the end, the choice was made to keep Chili Bowl weekend as the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving.  And so, Chili Bowl XIII will be November 19 when the Hawks travel to Purdue, our new, cross-division, most-hated rival.  (And, with the Hawks' struggles on the road this season, a game that may prove pivotal).</p><p>The Chili Bowl was created at a time when Hawkeye football was struggling mightily and hopes of traveling to exotic destinations over the holidays had long been dashed. More than 30 people—Iowa alum and friends—showed up to relive the school-yard glory days as they competed in such classics as Water Balloon Toss, Dizzy Bat, Egg Relays, Football Toss, Three-legged Race, the Wheelbarrow Race and the great Tug-o-War.</p><p>Iowa alum Jenn Havermann was overheard saying \"This is the best day of my life since middle school!!\" The day kicked off with a lively social hour where plenty of food and drink was enjoyed by all.</p><p>As the games proceeded, judges surveyed participants for the Best Dressed Award—which this year went to Adam Weinstein. At the end of the day, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place ribbons were presented to the winners of each event, and a Participant Ribbon went to everyone who played. Final scores were tallied by Head Ref Cori Zarek and Assistant Ref Elle Charles who presented the overall winner with the official Field Day Trophy. The night concluded with even more food, games and great weather for the enjoyment of all. The team would like to thank its group of organizers, Cori Zarek, Elle Charles, Callie Stapp, Kevin Meredith, Julie Saine and of course, the Field Day host, Jeff Bednarczyk. Gilead was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2005. News["Tour the Naval Observatory"] = [" ","Way back in 2001 the Club was preparing a tour of the U.S. Naval Observatory, located on the grounds of the Vice President's home.  The September 11th attacks closed the property to the public. And so, Chili Bowl XIII will be November 19 when the Hawks travel to Purdue, our new, cross-division, most-hated rival.  (And, with the Hawks' struggles on the road this season, a game that may prove pivotal).</p><p>The Chili Bowl was created at a time when Hawkeye football was struggling mightily and hopes of traveling to exotic destinations over the holidays had long been dashed.
