Des Moines Iowa Club Organizational Meeting

12pm (Market Café) and 6pm (Rock Bottom Brewery)Officers:
Club Leader:
Assistant Club Leader/Secretary: Open position; Entails serving as a club representative at events when the Club Leader cannot, in addition to taking the minutes at any club meetings.
Event Chairs:
4-6 people needed; willing to organize one event per year
Group Organization:
The leadership group will meet a few times per year to plan the activity calendar and receive input regarding club activities.
Event ideas:
- Reach a broad range of age groups (events for young alumni, families, and retired alumni)
- Wine tasting, Cubs baseball game, career/networking related socials, incoming UI freshmen student send offs, UI day at the zoo, scholarship fundraising dinners, honoring Distinguished Alumni Award recipients in Des Moines, "Thirsty Thursdays" once every other month at a local bar- focus on career networking topics?
Volunteer/involvement opportunities:
- Recruit UI students through Alumni Seeking Iowa Students (ASIST): http://www.iowalum.com/asist/
- Become an 'Iowa Career Exploration Network" (ICE-NET) volunteer: http://www.careers.uiowa.edu/ice-net.html
- Join the UI Legislative Advocacy Network: http://www.iowalum.com/advocate/index.html
I-Clubs versus Iowa Clubs:
I-Clubs are strictly athletics related and coordinate Hawkeye watch parties; Iowa Clubs promote the educational, cultural, and social networking aspects of the University of Iowa. While the Alumni Association experiences a good working relationship with admissions, our Iowa Clubs have a non-athletics focus with a mission of engaging our alumni in a variety of activities.
