Mark the Dates for DM 14! Dance Marathon Alumni,
Whether you graduated this past May or ten years ago, we at the University of Iowa Alumni Association suspect that memories of Dance Marathon remain with you. And that’s why we’re supporting development of the Dance Marathon Alumni Group (DMAG)—to help keep the spirit alive and to help you continue to support the kids and families who are central to the Dance Marathon (DM) mission.

How does it work? Everyone who has participated in Dance Marathon in any way is automatically part of the group. You can be as involved as you like—and we’ll keep you informed about ways you might like to help with “Action Items” in this newsletter.

In 2007, DM 13 raised an astounding $880,903.13. With that kind of momentum—and with volunteer commitment to extend Dance Marathon’s good work with the help of program alumni like you—the goal for DM 14 is $1 million!

Alumni effort will be a critical component to reaching the million-dollar mark. Please stay tuned to future newsletters and communications for ways you can help. Together, we’ll continue to make a difference for Dance Marathon!

Message from the Chief Executive Director
DancersThank you for all you’ve done for Dance Marathon and all we hope you’ll do in the future. We know that DM couldn’t be what it is today without your past work and cannot hope to continue its remarkable growth without your future efforts.

This is going to be a momentous year for DM. Our first-ever Spring Recruitment Drive yielded more than 500 dancers by May 1, so we began the school year with an added boost and registered 1,200 dancers by the end of October!

In addition, Dance Marathon now has a dedicated advisor in Mark Baccei. In years past, advisors had to split their time between DM and other student organizations. We’re delighted that Mark will be able to focus completely on DM and that he’ll have new graduate assistant Madelon Boyer to help him. Madelon will pay special attention to dancer recruitment, retention, and database management.

Recently, we held a family round table discussion and asked Quad Cities-area families how DM projects and services are being received. We’re already using some of their feedback to strengthen our impact and we’ll continue to assess our organization to make it even better.

With your help, we’re looking forward to a year of new ideas and reaching new levels!

FTK!
Lindsey Arnold
Chief Executive Director 2008

Family Spotlight:† The Doug Ruley Family

Our son Doug was born September 22, 1998; he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on June 30, 2000 when he was 21 months old. Up until that time he had been a healthy baby. We thought that he had a cold and found out that wasn’t the case and there began our whirlwind experience with the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and eventually Dance Marathon.
