Attend this complimentary meal to network with successful alums and mingle with fellow classmates, gain experience with dinner etiquette, and hear stories from our alumni about their time at the UI. Alumni Hosts

Seating at alumni host tables will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please rank the alumni hosts below in order of your preference. You will receive an e-mail prior to the event with details of your assigned host.


Hungry Hawkeyes Alumni Bios

Dennis Boatman, 62BA, 64MS, 66MD, studied general science, pharmacology, and medicine at the UI. Now retired from his urology practice, he remains active in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids areas as the head of fundraising for the local community health clinic. Last year, Dr. Boatman received the prestigious Distinguished Alumnus Award from the UI Carver College of Medicine.

Mike Carberry, 83BBA, received his BBA in marketing with a minor in communications. He is the director of Green State Solutions, an Iowa City-based consulting firm specializing in advocacy, outreach, and campaigns on global climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainability, conservation, and other environmental issues.

Thomas Casavant, 82BS, 83MS, 86PHD, studied math and computer science and electrical and computer engineering at the UI. A UI engineering faculty member since 1989, he is now the director of the UI Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. His research includes the Human Genome Project, genetics of human disease, computational biology, and molecular science.

Dr. Eric Epping, 94BS, 03PhD, 03MD, studied biochemistry, physiology, and biophysics before earning his medical degree at the UI. He is currently an assistant professor of psychiatry in the Carver College of Medicine.

Gina Glass, 78BS, 82BS, 86MS, studied zoology, medicine with a physician assistant certificate, and preventive medicine at the UI. Currently a physician assistant on the bone marrow transplant team at the UIHC, she is also working on her MBA from the University of Iowa Tippie School of Management.

Dr. Michael Maharry, 96MD, graduated from medical school at the UI. Since finishing his residency training in family medicine in 1999, he has been a faculty member in the department of family medicine. He served as residency director until 2010, when he moved to UIHC's new family medicine clinic in Muscatine. Dr. Maharry is interested in historic preservation and the politics of medicine.

Kellee McCrory, 03MPH, earned her master's degree in public health from the UI. Project director for the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice and a researcher for the National Resource Center for In-home Services at the University of Iowa, she is also the evaluator for the Iowa Cancer Consortium and the Iowa Department of Public Health's BASICS and PHCAST programs. Kellee is also working on her Master of Social Work at the UI.

Steve Prideaux, 06BA, 08 MS, studied political science, history, and urban and regional planning at the UI. Now a city planner at the HR Green architectural/engineering firm in Cedar Rapids, he focuses on community redevelopment projects and urban renewal. This involves working with federal grants, developing city master plans, and helping communities successfully complete their master plans.

Dr. Steve Wolken, 65BS, 68MD, 75R, and Sue Wolken, 66BA, have been dedicated Hawkeyes for many years. Steve received his undergraduate and medical school degrees from the UI and completed his ophthalmology residency in 1975. He practiced ophthalmology in Iowa City for nearly 35 years before retiring in 2009, and he also served as the University of Iowa Alumni Association board chair. Sue Wolken received a BA degree in education/special education from the UI and taught fourth grade at Hoover School in Iowa City. After raising three children and being a 4-H leader for 15 years, she worked for the UI's child psychiatry department before retiring.
