Join the University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) and New Pioneer Food Co-op for a delicious evening of food and conversation as we host a UIAA members-only event at the New Pioneer Co-op in Coralville.
In support of the UI’s One Community, One Book program, the evening will include a Local Foods Party Fare cooking class based on the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year in Food Life by best-selling author Barbara Kingsolver. New Pioneer Food Co-op cooking instructors Genie Maybanks and Theresa Carbrey will demonstrate recipes that show the spirit of Kingsolver's book, using locally available ingredients. Attendees can sample local fare, take home recipes, and discuss the book in an informal, fun environment. Copies of the book will also be available for sale.

About One Community, One Book - Launched in 2001 by the UI Center for Human Rights, One Community, One Book is an annual community-wide reading project in cooperation with the UI International Writing Program, Prairie Lights Books, and a variety of other university and community groups.
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year in Food Life, written by Barbara Kingsolver with Steven L. Hopp and Camille Kingsolver, is the 2009 selection for One Community, One Book. The book tells the story of how Kingsolver and her family spent one year deliberately only eating food grown or produced in their community.
