Janet Cramer, 00BLS, is one recent college grad who doesn't have to worry about a job. She's been retired for more than two years.

Cramer enrolled in her first UI class in 1982, at the age of 46. John, her fourth of five children, had just dropped a bombshell, telling his mother he was quitting college to take a job. Cramer couldn't convince her son to finish school—but John convinced his mother to start. "I couldn't find a reaon why I shouldn't do it," she says.

So, Cramer started registering for one class each semester, fitting courses around her full-time work schedule at University Hospital School, where she worked as a UI employee for 25 years before retiring in 1998.

While she pursued her goal of a college diploma, life went on. Her children grew up, and her grandchildren were born. Her husband passed away. She remarried.

"I never considered quitting," Cramer says. "I'm just glad I lived long enough to finish."
