Dr. Eddie Anderson: Hall of Fame College Football Coach by Kevin Carroll McFarland

As a urologist and the UI's head football coach for eight seasons (1939-42 and 1946-49), Eddie Anderson spent his mornings seeing patients at the UI Hospitals and Clinics and his afternoons preparing teams on the gridiron.

His dedication paid off: The 1939 Ironmen Squad garnered a 6-1-1 record, producing Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick, 40BA, and earning Anderson "Coach of the Year" honors. This biography focuses on Anderson's football career-from his days as an All-American end for Notre Dame to his 39 seasons of coaching at four schools. It also reveals a College Hall of Fame coach as devoted to practicing medicine as to guiding his teams to victory.

Bill, I believe that the book may contain the photo you mention. On page 40 appears a photo with a cutline that refers to Iowa's 10-7 win over Notre Dame in 1921 and also identifies Duke Slater and Eddie Anderson as two of the players. Tina Owen Editor

There is a famous picture of Duke Slater, a Hawkeye great, blocking two or three players during an early Notre Dame-Iowa game which Iowa won. Dr. Eddie was a Motre Dame player then and appears in that pcture. Is this included in he sory? wkh
