Some alumni took a public dislike of Nelson Kellogg, business manager
and director of athletics. Charging him with incompetency, they stated
that “no one but an alumnus can be a satisfactory manager.”
The students, faculty, and the Board in Control of Athletics all stood
behind Kellogg, with the result being that alumni representation on the
board was reduced to one.
