Gillian Woodburn • You Gotta Have Friends

This semester, I have to take organic chemistry II for majors, organic lab for majors, inorganic chemistry, and introductory physics II for my major. The bad thing about having all those required classes is that I don’t have much freedom in my schedule. Almost all classes have either one or two discussion sections, only one of which could possibly work with the other three. And since I have to take an afternoon lab, I can’t take an advanced German class next semester (which greatly hinders my plan to minor in German.)

But one nice thing is that I know at least three other people who are taking the exact same courses at the same times. We walk from class to class together—and complain together. I think people with the same majors have similar personalities, too, because we all get along pretty well. I don’t think I could make it if I didn’t have people to complain with. My roommate is a Spanish major. When I talk about a reaction mechanism on a test where I put down the wrong reagents, she doesn’t have a clue what I’m saying.
