James Ehrmann • A Christmas Present

The Christmas Eve service at my church in Davenport is undoubtedly my favorite part of Christmas every year. We have three services, including one at 11 p.m that typically lasts past midnight, and thus into Christmas day. I sang in the service with the Cathedral Choir of Young Men and Boys as an alumni member. It’s just so refreshing to see everyone again; a lot of the guys in the choir attend the University of Iowa and are also in the Greek system. The highlight of Christmas day for me was receiving a cell phone—I am now no longer the last person on the face of the earth who doesn’t have one! But, my initial excitement soon turned to anguish upon realizing that people can now get hold of me regardless of where I am or what time it is.
