Andrew Philbrick

By IAM Staff
Cambus driver Andrew Philbrick heads in unusual directions with his eclectic musical tastes.

When a winter ice storm and summer flooding this past year cancelled classes at the UI, most students stayed away from campus. Andrew Philbrick drove all around it.

As a second-year Cambus driver, Philbrick specializes in taking people where they want to go—whatever the weather. He's one of 170 students who run the campus bus service that provides about four million rides a year. Poor road conditions may force drivers to alter or delay their routes, but only on two days during the height of the flood did the Cambus cancel service altogether.

A music performance junior from Council Bluffs, Philbrick cheers up weather-weary riders with his eclectic musical tastes, including Celtic, Irish, and classical. "[Passengers thank me] for playing good music," says the euphonium player, "because sometimes people get tired of rock 'n' roll."
