Hawkeye Beads are handrolled paper beads made by ChildVoice's artisan beaders at the Lukome Centre in Gulu, Northern Uganda. Recycled paper is cut into long thin strips, rolled on a pin, glued, sealed with six coats of environmentally friendly lacquer, then strung into necklaces and bracelets. The beaders earn a fair trade wage and the proceeds support the programs that help young women who have been brutally victimized by war.
The sale of ChildVoice Beads supports the work of ChildVoice International. Led by a team of experts with more than 25 years of experience in improving outcomes for at-risk populations in the U.S. and the Third World, ChildVoice International works in partnership with local organizations and community leaders to ensure that programs meet the needs of affected populations with efficiency and effectiveness. The children served by ChildVoice International and partnering grassroots organizations include former child soldiers, children orphaned by war, and those left destitute by rebel activity.
