"Once a Hawkeye" means you bleed "black and gold" on game day during football and basketball season.
What does "Once a Hawkeye" mean to you?
It means you bleed "black and gold" on game day during football and basketball season. Despite past heartbreaks and disappointments, we'll still be in front of the TV when the next season rolls around.
What do you value most about your UI education?
Our college education enabled us to lay the groundwork for our future, so that we could better achieve our potential and thus contribute as viable members of society.
What are your outstanding memories of your time at the UI?
Walks together along the Iowa River, sitting next to each other in Spanish class, attending the ROTC Ball as a young married couple, attending many athletic events and homecoming activities, and participating in intramural sports. Plus, meeting and staying friends with many Iowans who were sincerely friendly and quite different from people encountered on the east coast.
Why do you choose to travel with Iowa Voyagers?
Through the Voyagers, we met and have stayed in touch with new friends; we enjoy reminiscing about all that we've seen and learned regarding the history and culture of ancient civilizations.
What are some of your favorite trips—and why are they so memorable?
We've truly enjoyed two Iowa Voyager trips that helped expand our horizons and allowed us to learn more and see firsthand the wonders and beauty of Greece and Italy. We correspond with past Voyager trip participants to coordinate possible upcoming excursions together.
How does your involvement with the UIAA enrich your life?
The alumni association keeps us updated on pertinent university information. Because we live so far away, we are only able to return to Iowa City perhaps once a year, for a football game. Most of our involvement with the university and the alumni association is through correspondence, primarily e-mails. We also enjoy receiving the bi-monthly alumni magazine, the annual Iowa Voyagers catalog, and individual trip brochures.
