Paradise Club Wins Iowa Club Awards!!
Some very exciting news was delivered to the Club recently.
The Paradise Iowa Club has been recognized by the UIAA in the 2008
Iowa Club Awards! The Paradise Club came close to sweeping the
Awards, winning two of the three awards that we were up for! Below is an excerpt
from the email Justin received from Iowa Clubs Director Susan
Griffith.
IOWA Club of the Year – (alumni
population of 1,500 or less)
Paradise IOWA Club/Ft. Myers, FL – led by Justin
McBride
Ft. Myers is a “three-peat” in this category. Judges noted
this club's overall efforts and energy level, as well as the
group's focus beyond the local Ft. Myers' area, including relief
efforts related to last year's Aplington/Parkersburg tornado and
organization of the efforts for Iowa troops serving overseas.
IOWA Club Program of the Year
Operation Phone Home III – Ft. Myers
An extension of the IraqCare
Package program, Operation Phone Home provided phone
minutes for the men and women of Company B serving with Task
Force 34 in Iraq. The Ft. Myers IOWA Club provided
each and every soldier in this Iowa
National Guard Unit one hundred minutes of phone time for
Thanksgiving and another 100 minutes for Christmas,
for a total of more than 25,000 minutes of talk-time for soldiers
during the Holidays.
Thank you to all of our Club members for your continued support
throughout the year. Paradise Iowa Club's strength comes through
the support and effort of its members!!
