Section II
The
nasty baseball strike of 1994 lasted into the 1995 season, canceling 921
regular season games and the 1994 World Series. (pp. 190-191, Baseball as
America)
A
single umpire had the difficult task of calling the game until 1910, when
two umpires—one behind the plate and one on the field—became
standard. Three umpires were the norm by 1935, and the four-man crew was
adopted in 1952. (p. 196, Baseball as America)
