Make a Wish Game Day

S.T.A.T. Ambassadors work with the UI Alumni Association, the UI Athletics Department, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation to treat terminally ill eastern Iowa children and their families to a traditional Hawkeye football day experience each fall.
Make-A-Wish Game Day was first held on September 30, 1995. It began when Make-A-Wish volunteer Dana Spiewak, 96BA, proposed the idea as a philanthropy project for the S.T.A.T. Ambassadors. The tradition has continued with a variety of kid-friendly activities for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The day’s events begin with a pregame tailgate followed by a rousing Iowa football game and a postgame miniature pep rally with notable Iowa figures, including football players, cheerleaders, and Herky.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses through wish-granting work. For more information, please visit www.wish.org.
