S.T.A.T. Executive Board

The 2009 S.T.A.T. Ambassadors Executive Board:
Jenn Nelson, President
Kendall Gifford, Vice President of Membership
Andrew Oswalt, Vice President of Operations
Amy Carlson, Vice President of Publicity
Molly Schau, Vice President of Communications

More information regarding the executive board positions and their responsibilities can be seen below. Executive Board officers attend weekly meetings and participate in a spring retreat as well as other events and volunteer opportunities.

Descriptions of officer responsibilities are as follows.

A) President – Responsibilities

  • Place the organization as the top priority among extra-curricular activities.
  • Represent S.T.A.T. Ambassadors on the UIAA Board of Directors by attending its meetings and events.
  • Be informed and advised on all aspects of S.T.A.T. Ambassadors programming by maintaining effective communication with the S.T.A.T. Ambassadors advisor, committee chairs, and other relevant people.
  • Develop agendas, moderate, and lead all general and Executive Board meetings.
  • Insure good communication among Executive Board members.
  • Be aware and make known to the general membership unique opportunities that arise that could serve to better the group or individual members.
  • Continually strive to make S.T.A.T. Ambassadors a stronger and more prominent University of Iowa student organization.
  • Provide periodic reports to S.T.A.T. Ambassadors general membership, S.T.A.T. Ambassadors Executive Board, S.T.A.T. Ambassadors Advisor, the UIAA Executive Director and the UIAA Board of Directors.
  • Issue dismissal letters as voted upon by the Executive Board.
  • Make reservations for rooms, equipment, etc. for meetings and events
  • Create and maintain an Ambassador resource manual

B) Vice President of Membership – Responsibilities

  • Organize the membership recruitment efforts for S.T.A.T. Ambassadors.
  • Maintain attendance records and evaluate member participation as prescribed in Article II, Section 2.
  • Determine whether or not a quorum exists as prescribed in Article VI, Section 4.
  • Coordinate the new member application and interview processes
  • With the help of the V.P. of Operations plan new member orientation, specifically to integrate new members into S.T.A.T. Ambassadors by developing materials for the orientation program.

  • In charge of ordering polos/nametags in the spring semester for new members as well as for old members that need a replacement.
  • Conduct Executive Board and general meetings in the absence of the president.
  • Receive attendance reports from committees as assigned.
  • Attend all Executive Board meetings.

C) Vice President of Operations – Responsibilities

  • Manage S.T.A.T. Ambassadors finances accurately and completely.
  • Meet with the S.T.A.T. Ambassadors Advisor once per month to create and update the S.T.A.T. Ambassadors budget.
  • Collect receipts of S.T.A.T. Ambassadors expenditures, request and distribute reimbursements, and monitor S.T.A.T. Ambassadors spending in general.
  • Chair all fundraising committees/activities such as Rose Sales and Welcome kits.
  • Make restaurant reservations for special meetings and coordinate payment for meal(s) and tip.
  • Assist the V.P. of Membership in planning new member orientation, specifically to integrate new members into S.T.A.T. Ambassadors by developing materials for the orientation program.
  • Facilitate the appointment of committee members' chairs.
  • Receive updated reports from committees as assigned.
  • In charge of award submissions for various awards (Circle of Excellence, Leadership Conference, CASE/ASAP)
  • Attend all Executive Board meetings.

D) Vice President of Communication – Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate S.T.A.T. Ambassador and S.T.A.T. information (i.e. taking minutes, upcoming events, list serve, email, etc.) on ICON.
  • Update other web and media outlets regarding S.T.A.T. Ambassador and general S.T.A.T. information (i.e. Facebook).
  • Document events by taking and posting photos.
  • Work with UIAA web staff to implement other S.T.A.T. Ambassador technological needs.
  • Periodically monitor the UIAA website and submit updates on materials or new events. (UIAA Board Meetings)
  • Coordinate photos and slide show presentations for various events.
  • Record and distribute the minutes of all general and Executive Board meetings.

E) Vice President of Publicity-Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the programs and activities in which S.T.A.T. Ambassadors are involved.
  • Act as liaison between S.T.A.T. Ambassadors and UI community and the UIAA communications team
  • Compile and maintain a "Publicity Resource Manuel," for all event planning (screen savers, press releases, reports from previous committees)
  • Work with committee chairs to create an event marketing plan
  • Attend all exec board meetings
