HISTORY

In the early 80's, four lonesome Hawkeyes got together to talk about forming an Iowa Club. Out of that meeting was born the Iowa Club of San Diego. The lonesome Hawkeyes founders are Steve Knox from Des Moines, Bob Ottilie from Oelwein, Mike Horning from Oelwein, and Gary Peters from Iowa City.

We began with game watches, picnics by Mission Bay, and Beef Queen Contests. The Iowa Club grew in a few short years to a membership of 1,800. We had a great run through that era with a winning football and basketball teams. The tradition of Iowa Club continues to this date, with steady participation and renewed interest with Hawks’ recent successes in both basketball and football.
