We will discuss the moral underpinnings of a sustainable food system and how the decisions we make three times a day have a profound impact on the world around us. Slow Food is what it's all about, and decisions made locally affect the national and international levels. The class will also cover the writings of Michael Pollan, Eric Schlosser, Gary Nabhan, and our presenter Kurt Michael Friese. Suggested films are Food, Inc., Forks over Knives, and Big Night.

INSTRUCTORS: Kurt Michael Friese is the author of Slow Food in the Heartland, co-author of Chasing Chiles, co-owner of Devotay Restaurant and Bar in Iowa City, board member of Slow Food USA, and publisher of Edible Iowa Magazine. Kim McWane Friese is co-owner of Devotay and managing editor of Edible Iowa Magazine.
