Ping: The Brilliant Moments in Film

They happen, and it's as if the whole film discovers its true pitch. The distracting noises cut out. The dissonance dies away. The audience holds its breath as a movie scene reverberates with a tone that is passionate, brave, and true. What are the characteristics that combine to give a scene this quality of "Ping?" The answers may surprise you. We will employ some fresh analytical tools as our "tuning forks" and evaluate excerpts from a whole batch of films that are funny, sad, animated, epic, foreign, local, and my personal favorite...quirky.
INSTRUCTOR: Rev. Emory Gillespie is a Presbyterian minister, who has published articles in the Poetry Foundation, Christian Century, Wapsipinicon Almanac, and Call to Worship. She has taught courses for Cornell College and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. Currently, she teaches at Kirkwood College and serves as a guest preacher in eastern Iowa. She is noted for her engaging sense of humor.
