This course will provide information on the nature and causes of hearing loss, as well as techniques and technology for improving communication in our noisy, fast-talking world. Interactive lectures will cover the causes of hearing loss, speech-reading, help in noisy environments, tinnitus, hearing aid technology, and cochlear implants. Small group sessions will also provide participants hands-on experience with assistive listening devices. Participants with hearing loss are encouraged, but not required, to enroll with a communication partner (e.g. spouse, friend), who must also enroll.

INSTRUCTOR: Diane Niebuhr is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, where she has been for 28 years.
