Hawkeye Haiku Contest / Ended October 20 / Winner to be announced in November newsletter.
Five minutes of time
And seventeen syllables
For fifty bucks cash!
Kinnick Stadium cheers,
Wind rustling leaves of autumn—
Memories being made.
You probably had a unit on them in elementary school. Or maybe
you just remember the episode of That 70’s Show where Hyde
recited one. Yeah, we’re talking about haikus. And we want
to hear yours.
The
rules are easy: one line of five syllables, one line of seven,
one line of five again. We’re looking for haikus
that follow a general theme of college life. They can be about
anything from the cost of textbooks to your favorite study spot.
Write one or a few up, e-mail it (or them) to us by October 20th
at stat-underground@uiowa.edu,
and we’ll pick our favorite. The winner gets $50 cash,
and every haiku received will be featured in the November issue
of S.T.A.T. Underground.
In need of some haiku resources? We’ve compiled a list
to make the process that much easier.
