Here are the clues and answers for the 2004 hunt: Clue #10 - Friday, April 9 Explanation: The medallion is buried in Gibson Square, located at Burlington and Madison next to the Main Library. The square is named after Dick Gibson, who was both the University of Iowa’s Fencing Coach beginning in 1968 and Director of the Facilities Services Group beginning in 1996. The Gibson Square fence was constructed and completed by using work from Iowa Prison Industries of Anamosa. Clue #9 - Thursday, April 8 Explanation: The medallion is 70 paces plus 10 stairs of the south door of the Main Library, a place full of books (with spines). Clue #8 - Wednesday, April 7 Explanation: The Linquist Center was named after E.F. Linquist, who was the founder and creator of the ACT and ITBS tests. The building is next door, quote from Mr. Rogers, to the Main Library. Clue #7 - Tuesday, April 6 Explanation: The University-wide campus building sign system was originated and implemented by Dick Gibson when he was Director of the Facilities Services Group. Gibson Square is named in his honor. Clue #6- Monday, April 5 Explanation: Friday’s clue was for the UI Field House on the west side of the Iowa River on Grand Ave. The medallion is located off Burlington St, the continuation of Grand Ave on the east side of the Iowa River. Clue #5 - Friday, April 2 Explanation: The UI Field House is where many students, faculty, and the public go to exercise and participate in multiple activities. The UI’s Field House is not to be confused with the downtown-eating establishment Third Base Field House, which is located in the Ped Mall. Clue #4 - Thursday, April 1 Explanation: University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics was the first teaching hospital in 1898 west of the Mississippi. The ever-expanding hospital is now nationally known and recognized for its phenomenal health care. Clue #3 - Wednesday, March 31 Explanation: Mormon Handcart Park, located off of Mormon Trek Blvd, is the site where over 1,000 Mormons began a walk to Salt Lake City in 1856-57. The railroad that they were traveling on ended in Iowa City, where they built wooden handcarts and walked together to gather and celebrate their faith. A commemorative plaque stands at the entrance of the trail. CLUE #2 - Tuesday, March 30 Explanation: Seashore Hall was where the first college students attended classes with in 1855. At this time it was known as the Old Mechanics Building. Clue #1 - Monday, March 29 Explanation: Professor and world-famous geologist Samuel Calvin and his family lived at 522 North Clinton in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s, which is currently the Delta Delta Delta sorority house. He was one of the first science professors at the University of Iowa, and worked in the Science Hall building. Calvin’s old family home was bought by Tri Delta in 1922, and has since been added on to and remodeled.
