Louis Hanzlik
Louis Hanzlik is a trumpeter based in New York City, where he is active as a chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator. A member of the Atlantic Brass Quintet since 2002, he performs with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Orpheus, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. In addition, Hanzlik serves as co-principal trumpet with the Riverside Symphony (NYC), and he performs with the IRIS Chamber Orchestra (Memphis), Sinfonia New York (Gotham Early Music Scene), and the orchestra for Broadway’s Mary Poppins.
Upon graduating from the Juilliard School in 2000, Hanzlik performed as a guest artist with many premiere NYC cultural institutions, including the New York City Opera, New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, and Brooklyn Philharmonic. His international music festival performances have included the Singapore Arts Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Tanglewood, Spoleto Festival-Italy, Aspen Music Festival, Kyoto International Music Festival, Presences (Radio France), and Caramoor.
As an educator, Hanzlik promotes the inclusion of chamber music, in concept and practice, within a student’s curriculum and subsequent professional life. With the Atlantic Brass Quintet, he administers, coordinates, and teaches at the Atlantic Brass Quintet International Seminar at Boston University and Sonoma State University, designing programs of study to develop musicality, ensemble skills, and collaboration for brass students and professionals. In addition, Hanzlik is a trumpet instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University.
During the 2007-2008 season, Hanzlik will perform regularly with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Riverside Symphony, and Orpheus at Carnegie Hall, as well as with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Zankel Band at Carnegie Hall. Outside of New York City, he is scheduled for national and international performances with Orpheus, the IRIS Chamber Orchestra, and the Atlantic Brass Quintet.
Hanzlik can be heard on the Naxos, Summit, Decca, Chandos, Arabesque, Bridge, New World, and Vanguard Classics labels. In addition, he has frequently recorded for commercial television, commercial radio, and numerous public television and public radio features such as Live from Lincoln Center and National Public Radio’s Performance Today.
Originally from Iowa, Louis Hanzlik earned a bachelor of music degree from the University of Iowa in 1998, later graduating from the Juilliard School. He lives in Westchester County, New York, with his wife, Amanda, and son, Ethan.
