Alumni Award Nominations

The University of Iowa Alumni Association has presented annual awards to honor alumni and friends of the University of Iowa since 1963. These awards, presented in the spring during Reunion Weekend, are the highest accolade conferred by the Alumni Association.

	Deadline: September 1, 2008
	Nominations Format: Graduates, former students, faculty, and staff of the University of Iowa may make nominations. Nominators should submit the following: a letter stating the nomination category and establishing the candidate's qualifications with clear and concise detail; the nominee's vita, including a current address; at least three supporting letters of nomination from others; any additional information that would substantiate the nomination.
	Exclusions from Eligibility: Members of the board of directors and staff of the UIAA and current members of the faculty and staff of the university are not eligible to receive alumni awards. The Alumni Awards Selection Committee reserves the right to reassign categories of nomination if deemed applicable.

The selection committee wishes to ensure that it has the chance to review the broadest possible range of qualified nominees. Thus, nominations are invited from all quarters, according to the following guidelines and in these categories:

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD is granted to University of Iowa graduates or former students for significant accomplishments in business or professional life or for distinguished human service to their community, state, or nation.

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI SERVICE AWARD is granted to University of Iowa graduates or former students for specific and meritorious service to their university, community, state, or nation.

THE DISTINGUISHED HICKERSON ALUMNI RECOGNITION AWARD is granted to graduates or former students for outstanding contributions to the University of Iowa Alumni Association. This award is named in honor of the late Loren Hickerson, 40BA, the University of Iowa's first full-time alumni director and an ardent champion of Iowa.

THE DISTINGUISHED YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD is granted to University of Iowa graduates or former students, age 40 or younger at time of nomination, for significant accomplishments in business or professional life or for service to the university and/or the Alumni Association.

THE DISTINGUISHED FRIEND OF THE UNIVERSITY AWARD is granted to individuals who are not alumni of the university in recognition of specific and meritorious service on behalf of the quality and advancement of the university and/or the Alumni Association.

THE DISTINGUISHED FACULTY/STAFF AWARD is granted to retired or former UI faculty/staff in recognition of significant achievement or specific meritorious service on behalf of the quality and advancement of the university.

THE 2009 AWARDS
Please note that nominations for the 2009 awards may be submitted at any time, but must be postmarked no later than September 1, 2008.
